I want to experience real depth with people, so I let go of the fairy tale notions of my youth.
I maintain realistic expectations so there is no such thing as disappointment in my life.
I am human and fallible. While I strive daily to be my best self, I recognize that growing and maturing is a process.
I know that my actions, attitudes, and performance will sometimes leave room for improvement.
That’s okay! As long as I am continually moving forward, I am satisfied.
I extend the same courtesy to others.
Because I want them to understand my human tendencies and weaknesses, I allow others to be human as well.
My spouse, co-workers, children and friends all have their own unique personalities and sets of challenges.
By granting them permission to be fallible, I set myself up for more genuine relationships that will sustain us all during hard times.
And hard times do come! I keep in mind the fact that Hollywood is a mirage and that real life is tough for the vast majority of the world.
I have let go of the idea that somehow I should be insulated from the troubles of humanity and be allowed to live a fairy tale life in my castle in the clouds.
Because I value real life with authentic and rewarding relationships, I free myself of the need for perfection and live in the moment, finding joy and opportunity in each day.
How do you tend to expect perfection from yourself?
How have you allowed others to be human and fallible?
