I accept my loved ones the way they are.

Each one of their quirks is another reason to love them even more.

Our bond goes beyond any annoying habit.

I can overlook my loved ones’ idiosyncrasies because my world would be boring without their diversity.

I appreciate the uniqueness of my family.

Idiosyncrasies in my loved ones’ personalities are like the stars in the sky; they brighten up the dullness of darkness.

If we were all the same, the world would seem plain and dark.

I am glad that we’re all different. I am always amused at the unexpected.

My loved ones are spontaneous. They keep me looking forward to what will come next.

I encourage those around me to be who they are.

I am glad that my loved ones feel free and comfortable enough to open themselves to me.

My loved ones know that I accept and treasure them.

I value them as my gift from heaven.

Whenever I have a hard time getting past someone’s idiosyncrasies, I keep in mind that I have my own peculiarities.

Since I have a strong sense of identity, I am able to treat others the way I would like to be treated.

I enjoy the gift of time with my loved ones.

When I have the pleasure of being around my partner, I give them my full attention.

I love to hear what they have to say.

I cherish their thoughts and ideas.

Every minute I spend with my partner draws us closer.

I crave time with my children.

I just love seeing their cute little toothless grins.

Listening to my children squeal with laughter as I tickle their tummies is something I could do all day long.

I treasure my time with my parents and siblings.

There is nothing in life more important to me than my relationships with family members.

I seek opportunities to be around my family not only on holidays, but also throughout the year.

I invite my extended family to my home on a regular basis.

They know they are welcome in my home.

Each member of my family is unique and special.

When I am around them I cherish each moment.

Whenever I invest time with my loved ones, my investment is returned many times over with happiness and joy.

My family and I may not always agree on every issue.

Sometimes we may not even get along.

But, no matter what, I always love being around the people who make me feel at home.

In the end, I choose to let go of the insignificant arguments, and I will always hold on to memories of precious times together.

I make every effort to be with my family because I know life is short.

Life is fragile. I enjoy my gift of time with them because I do not want it to slip through my fingers like sand.

I love spending time with my children.

I love spending time with my children for many reasons.

One of the things I love most about them is the way they remind me to live in the moment.

Unlike many adults, kids are generally uninhibited by the need to perform.

They find great joy in the simple pleasures of life: catching fireflies, riding a bike, reading a good book or drawing a pretty picture for a friend.

They can get caught up in their interests for hours, pursuing it with single-minded attention.

When I spend time with them, I remember what it means to be absorbed in the moment, to be so fascinated that I am open to all its beauty and opportunities.

My children also model unconditional love for me.

Oh, they do get angry! But children are remarkably forgiving and trusting.

They know that, regardless of whatever mistakes I make, I have their best interests at heart.

I strive to maintain that same openness in my life.

I allow those I love some leeway, daring to trust their love, even if we occasionally disagree.

I allow myself to slow down and re-experience the simple pleasures in life.

I let go of the idea that time well-spent must involve something that can be billed or bought.

I am content to sit and blow bubbles with my daughter or bake cookies with my son, knowing that they are the ones who know what it means to truly live.

I am safe because I am not alone.

I know I have strong defenses because I have a family that cares about me.

My family gives me strength and confidence.

I can enjoy feeling surrounded by loving support because I make my family a priority in my life.

Strengthening my family ties also fortifies my defenses so that I never have to feel vulnerable.

No family is perfect.

Neither is mine, but I am grateful for who they are, faults and all!

Each member of my family brings their own measure of love and support.

Just as I pay attention to my relationships with friends and co-workers, I encourage positive relationships with my family members as well.

I inject positive energy into my family and I work to keep it strong.

I love my family for who they are.

I uplift them when they need me, just as they come to my aid when I need them.

I accept the strength and support they offer me.

I am a stronger person because of my family.

Today, I fully appreciate my family and take action to strengthen my relationship with them.

I will make a phone call or send a card to express my appreciation for their love and support.

My family and I are building a respectful and caring environment for us all.

My spouse and I speak to each other with respect and gentle tones.

My children speak to each other with kindness.

My neighbors hear nothing but love echoing from my house.

When I stop and listen to the soundtrack of my life, I hear laughter and love.

I teach my children to care for each other.

Hugging and kissing are as natural in my home as breathing.

Name calling and cursing are absent from my family’s vocabulary.

Instead, my family uses nicknames and pet names for each other.

My children have a healthy sense of worth because they are valued at home.

Communication is open and clear in my home.

Honesty is our policy.

By keeping these ideals, members of my family feel safe.

I am watchful of the things that come into my home through the media.

I make sure that everything we listen to or watch lines up with our values.

My family and I use our manners with each other.

My spouse and I thank our children when they do something for us.

My children use proper names when they speak to adults.

My family and I are considerate of each other’s space and privacy.

My family knows, without question, that we are valued and loved.

We each add a vital piece to the family unit.

By making each member feel secure, I have built a loving environment for all of us.

How to Communicate with your Spouse

No matter how long you and your spouse have been together, and no matter how close you consider your relationship, there are common communication issues that surface in every relationship at one point or another.

Here are four important communication issues to address in every relationship to maintain or recharge that aura of happiness and comfort:

1. How to Actively Listen.

Each person carries a lot on a daily basis.

Consider how many fears, thoughts, resentments, passions, and problems we all carry each day.

That’s why we need a release that both lessens the load as well as analyzes these feelings and thoughts.

Recognizing this need is your key to learning how to listen to your spouse.

Listen without judgment.

A person will not share what’s on their mind unless they feel accepted and safe from negative rebuffing.

Realize that your spouse may want you to listen to them without seeking a solution.

They may want advice, but more often than not, people just need to vent.

If you are actively listening, you will be able to gauge whether they are seeking solutions or just an ear to listen.

2. Be interested and sympathetic.

This is, after all, your spouse and everything that concerns them should concern you.

Discern what you would want if the roles were reversed and engage yourself as the best listener there is.

How to Be Heard.

It can be one of the most infuriating and disappointing issues to face when your spouse just doesn’t listen to what you have to say.

After all, we all want to be heard!

Be aware of your overdramatic attitude or nagging.

Though you may not even recognize that you do it, if you’re frustrated, chances are you do.

Your spouse won’t respect these tactics and they are more apt to turn off their listening altogether.

Ask why.

Tell your spouse that you feel unheard, and ask them why that is. Do not be confrontational, that’s not the point here.

Sometimes people are so wrapped up in their own daily issues that they don’t even realize they aren’t listening to you.

Make them aware and let them know just how much you want to share your thoughts and feelings.

Be prepared to compromise.

Give your spouse some slack by compromising to help engage them more.

For example, schedule a time every night for you to tell them about whatever’s on your mind so their whole attention can be focused on you during that time.

In time, your spouse will learn to listen without an appointment!

3. How to Express Your Feelings Respectfully.

Sometimes when we are angry, hurt or experiencing any other heightened feeling towards our spouse, we are unable to express our feelings respectfully.

The pain or anger speaks for us, and we end up saying things to hurt them and worsen the situation.

Take a breath before you voice your concern or issue.

There’s no point in saying something you’ll only regret a few minutes later.

Have a rough plan of how to say what you want to say without calling your spouse names or placing undue blame on them.

When you do this, your spouse will be less likely to get defensive and more likely to listen and work things out with you.

4. How to Build Trust.

Building trust is something that begins at the onset of a relationship.

Whether you have a new relationship or you have to rebuild lost trust, this bonding requires the right actions.

Be honest.

Above all else, you have to be honest with your spouse – about your intentions, actions, and your daily rights and wrongs.

Trying to hide something in mistruth sets you up for inevitable trouble.

Consider what’s at stake.

Remind yourself about what you have to lose if you do not honor the trust your spouse has for you.

This will help you to act accordingly and will help you build and maintain trust in your relationship.

Wait it out.

Whether you are in a new relationship or are in a long term one that needs repair, building trust takes time; time will reveal whether you are a trustworthy person or not.

Be trustworthy and in time you will win your spouse’s trust.

Communicating with your spouse may not always be easy.

However, if you follow these tips consistently, you will be rewarded with closer relationships, less stress, and greater happiness.

My family is an energy boost in my life.

When I am worn down, my family lifts me up.

They are always there to support me.

I am so grateful that I have such loving and caring people in my life.

My family brings me countless joys.

A smile from my spouse, a kiss from my child, a hug from my parents – all of these things fill me with love.

I am revitalized after I spend time with my family.

The joys of living are amplified when they are shared with those I love.

I am so excited to disclose my happy thoughts and experiences with them.

I enjoy listening to what is going on in their lives.

Sharing our thoughts and feelings makes me feel like I have partners to help me through all of life’s obstacles.

My wise Creator so thoughtfully gave me a wonderful family to help me through life.

My family gives me the confidence and energy boost I need to approach my life in a positive manner.

Finding joy is so much easier because I have the support of my family.

I look forward to spending time with my family and it motivates me to accomplish my tasks and see the beauty in the world.

When worries mount and pressures build, I only have to visualize my family cheering me on, and I can get through anything.

Their love and influence inspires me to be a better person.

My family is an energy boost in my life that I can always rely on. I am so happy that they walk my life’s journey with me.

With them by my side, I have the confidence to overcome any obstacles on my path.

Show Your Gratitude to Others with Compliments

Don’t you love to receive compliments? It’s great for your self-esteem and just plain feels good to hear someone else’s respect or admiration.

Those few words lighten your moods and give you the strength to push forward with you head held high.

Compliments reinforce that you’re doing something right and your efforts are being appreciated.

It only takes a moment to notice something small about someone but those few words can certainly make a difference in that person’s day.

Compliment Your Family

Showing your appreciation to those you love has a dual purpose: it shows how grateful you are to have them in your life while at the same time acknowledging the special work they’ve done.

Here are a few examples of ways to express your gratitude:

“Thanks for clearing the dishes. You did a great job!”
“I really appreciate your help with dinner tonight! It was a wonderful meal.”
“I am so thankful for your love and support. You’ve really helped me get through a tough day.”

Children and adults alike are encouraged to help more if they are complimented and receive positive acknowledgement.

Hearing compliments on a regular basis also teaches children how to appreciate the people in their lives.

Compliment Your Coworkers

There are two types of managers in business: one who appreciates their workers for a job well done and another who just expects the job to get done without any acknowledgement.

Obviously we all need to treat each other with the respect and dignity we deserve!

Here are some examples of how to express gratitude at work:

“Thanks for staying late today. I’ll be sure to tell the boss how hard you’ve been working lately.”
“The client really loved the report you wrote.”
“I really appreciate you taking the time out to help me with this. It means a lot to me!”

Adding a personal touch to the office by giving compliments can be a huge motivator.

Your colleagues will trust and respect you far more than anyone else in the office.

Compliment Strangers

In today’s society very few people take the time to strike up a conversation with a total stranger.

We have to remember that people are brought into our lives everyday for a variety of reasons, and you can deeply affect someone’s mood just by being nice to them.

Of course, you probably shouldn’t divulge your entire life’s story the first time you meet someone, but what you can do is notice something good about a person and tell them.

Show your gratitude for meeting this person because this experience just might teach you something new about yourself.

Here are a few examples of things you can look for to give an honest compliment about:

Is the person a sharp dresser?

Is he a genuinely nice person to others?

Are the person’s children very well-behaved?

Did you see the person do a kind act for someone else?

The key to expressing your gratitude is opening your eyes to seeing the simple gifts in your day.

By paying attention to the actions of those around you, you’ll not only help others gain confidence, but you’ll become known as the trustworthy go-to guy or go-to gal.

Make a goal to compliment at least one person each and every day.

You’ll start appreciating the small things in life and you’ll brighten someone’s day at the same time.
