I am a time management expert by applying the four D’s: Do, Delegate, Defer, and Drop.

By being aware of my schedule and doing what I need to do I can stay on track.

I am able to meet my time requirements by doing the things I need to do in the time allotted.

I do the things that I am able to do myself.

I am able to complete important tasks and I am able to keep priorities straight for each task.

This helps me stay on track.

When I have an abundance of tasks, I am able to ask for help from other capable people.

By entrusting tasks to others, I am able to maintain my time management effectively.

Delegating tasks is a positive solution that helps me stay calm and focused.

I am able to re-arrange my schedule for certain tasks to make sure everything that needs to get done actually does.

Tasks that can be put off for another day do not concern me today.

I set them aside and make sure the more important tasks are completed first.

There are some tasks that do not need to be done at all.

I am able to look at these and let them go to make way for the more important tasks.

These are all methods I use to maintain my timetable and successfully manage my time.

Today I choose to make use of my time management skills.

I do the tasks that I am able to do. I delegate tasks to others in order to maintain my timetable.

I defer tasks to a different time and I drop tasks that do not need to be done.

I can effectively use my time management skills.

Regain Important Family Time by Leaving Work at the Office

On days when your spouse comes home from work irritable and grumpy from a bad day, try telling them jokingly, “Go back and come in again.”

In our high-stress society, sometimes it’s hard to keep work and home separate.

Work worries follow us home so we’re never really free of them.

Even though work is such an intertwined part of life for everyone, it’s essential to leave your work problems at work so your home can be your sanctuary.

Here are some effective tips to help you leave those work issues back at the office so you can enjoy your time at home:

1. Schedule your day.

Plan ahead for how long you’re going to be at work.

When you’re “closed” be closed, even if it means ignoring the phone or emails.

The world won’t stop spinning if you sit down to dinner with your family and let the machine get the phone.

You know that you’ll pick things up the next day, so accept that the work can wait until you get back. Train yourself for this.

If you have to initially schedule family time or alone time, do it.

You’ll soon begin to enjoy the rewards of scheduled time off.

Turn off your cell phone, blackberry, or beeper when you walk in the door.

Your messages will still be there in the morning when you start your workday again.

This idea might prove a little tricky for stay at home moms, but learn how to set boundaries for your children.

After you put them to bed, tell them Mommy hours are over, and it’s time for you to relax.

Most children respect these parameters, and other people who need you will learn to respect your boundaries as well.

2. Change your clothes.

Work attire has certain standards and, when you change into comfortable clothing at home, you give yourself a chance to relax.

Whether you wear a uniform or business wear, changing your clothes is a mental indicator that work time is up.

Keep a cozy pair of slippers by the door so you can get comfortable immediately after you come into the door.

3. Give yourself time to de-stress.

You can just sit in the chair, read a good book, or fix a drink.

Whatever your method is to de-stress, make sure you’ve spelled out ahead of time that you aren’t to be interrupted until you’re ready.

If you know you don’t want to be pummeled by your kids the moment you walk in the door, arrange with your spouse or kids to allow a few minutes to de-stress.

Use your commuting time to de-stress, especially if you use public transit.

Listening to your iPod or just daydreaming out the window can make a world of difference in your mood once you get home.

Don’t stay in de-stress mode, however, for the entire evening!

Still take part with the family once you’ve cleared your mind for a bit.

4. Separate your work area.

As more and more people begin working from home, it’s harder to separate the two lives.

In order to help you distance yourself from work once work hours are over, keep your work area physically separate from your family area.

Establish your work area in a dedicated workroom, or separate your work area with a wall or a room divider so you’re not pulled back to your work area when you’re interacting with your family.

If you work with a laptop, don’t be tempted to bring your work into your family space.

It’s too easy to get distracted by work when your family needs you at the end of the day.

You’ll find so much peace of mind once you realize that you’re in control of your schedule!

Don’t let the boss run your world outside of work.

You’ll be happier, healthier and more productive when you take time for yourself and your family.

Treat yourself with the respect you deserve!

I minimize time wasting.

I actively seek out relaxation in my life.

I create an atmosphere of relaxation within my life.

Instead of waiting for a time to sit back and relax, I proactively make this time for myself.

I am aware of my schedule and I make time for special activities that I find relaxing.

By scheduling time to do the things that recharge my spirit, I become a more centered person.

I pay attention to how busy I allow myself to get and I ensure time is allotted to do the things I enjoy doing.

I allow myself to rearrange my schedule to make me a high priority.

Whether it is taking an hour in the evening to soak in a warm tub of bubbles with a glass of wine and a good book, or taking a peaceful stroll through the park, I make time for myself.

My time and my schedule are important, however, my serenity and relaxation is equally important to me.

This is why I purposefully make time to step away from my busy life and simply breathe in calmness.

Today I choose to create the time I need to seek relaxation.

I may simply need a half hour to feel recharged and today I will schedule this time for myself.

Because I am organized, I am able to minimize my daily stress.

I take the necessary time to be organized because I know that doing so minimizes my daily stress.

While it is sometimes tempting to rush into a work week or a project, I recognize that my time is like money; I have to spend some to gain some.

I organize my time to facilitate my goals by pruning off activities that drain me of my time and energy.

I recognize that, like everyone else, my time is not limitless. I choose to set aside specific times for those activities that are important to me and I let the rest go.

I set aside time at the beginning of each project to make sure I have a clear picture of where I am going and that I have the resources I need to get there.

This way I don’t end up whittling it away on pointless and avoidable activities.

For example, I see no point in wasting time hunting for my keys each morning, so I set a basket by the door to drop them in each night.

Supplies are stocked and organized by my desk to prevent wasted time and distraction when I am in the middle of my work.

A weekly menu eliminates waste when I shop and minimizes my time in the kitchen.

I take a few minutes to do each of these things on a periodic basis so I can have more time to focus on what is truly important in my life.

Time is my friend.

Time is my friend. I work with it, enjoy it, respect it, and make the best of it.

While I have an abundance of time in my life, I choose to both enjoy and respect this wonderful gift.

I have so much I want to accomplish and, by planning carefully, I can ensure that I have the time to do everything I desire.

Thinking of time as an hourglass is not representative of the way I view time.

Instead, I imagine all of the sands of time spread throughout an enormous desert. I can see time extend in every direction.

I know that I have the time to accomplish everything I desire.

I place priorities on the goals in my life. The things I most want to accomplish are given my attention first.

This allows me to make sure I have the time to do the things that are most dear to me.

Certain tasks in my life may need to be completed in a limited time frame and I accept that.

I give myself deadlines and I stick to them. This ensures that I do not waste my valuable time.

When I work with time and respect it, I have the ability to balance my life.

Giving myself the time to pursue my personal desires, to fulfill my work responsibilities, and to devote attention to my family are important uses of my time.

Learning how to balance my time is important.

I am thankful to have found a friendship with time.

By making the most of the time I am given, I am able to make the best life for my loved ones and myself.

Mastering Time Management Skills

Whether you’re at home or on the job, you’ll find that you’ll have a tough time getting things done if you don’t have time management skills.

Time management is not all that hard to master, it just takes practice, so make sure you implement some of the following tips into your daily routine.

Time Management 101

First, make sure that you use a schedule book or calendar.

Chances are good that, once you write something down, you’ll be much more likely to remember it without even looking at your to-do list.

The discipline of writing in a planner can be quite rewarding.

It’ll make you more mindful of the work at hand and it’ll force you to organize your day effectively to accomplish what’s on your list.

When you get up every morning, take the time to look over your schedule while eating breakfast or sipping your coffee.This will help you map out your day in your head or make adjustments to your plan.
The more flexibility you have in your schedule, the better you will be able to get around unforeseen difficulties.

Get in the habit of confirming appointments or meetings with people to make sure that nothing has changed.If a different time is better for you, don’t be afraid to ask for a change in the time or date. If a meeting is in the middle of your day, considering shifting it.
After all, you’ll lose a few minutes of productivity before and after as you re-gain your momentum.

Don’t Over Commit Yourself

Many of us start developing terrible time management habits because we want to be everywhere and help people with everything.

If you’re feeling harried and hurried, then you’re not able to perform at your best.

Take some time and think about your physical and mental health.

You’ll improve your time management skills by taking a brief break to reflect and gain perspective on what’s going on and where you need to put your focus.

Determine where you want to focus your activities.If you have children, decide before the school year starts how much time you have to commit to school or after-school activities.
At work, think about what committees or groups you can participate in without over-extending yourself.If you over-commit yourself, your quality of work will suffer.

If you’re constantly running behind, try to wear a watch with an alarm or set alarms on your cell phone.

This can make a big difference when you’re trying to get to places on time. Just by wearing a watch can make you a whole lot more time conscious.

Implement Some Structure Into Your Day

Set a specific schedule for the morning and evening so you can accomplish routine tasks everyday.

Eventually you’ll become more efficient and this will free up more time in your day for other activities.

In the morning, make a point of cleaning up the kitchen before going to work.Clean the coffee maker, put the dirty plates and cups in the dishwasher, and wipe down your counters prior to walking out the door.
That way when you get home, you’re able to take some time to unwind without rushing around.

In the evening, de-clutter your living space, putting everything where it belongs.Clean up the dinner table, wipe down the counters, and do your night-time routine before climbing into bed.
Integrating structure into your day will help you think clearer and feel more organized.

I know when to leave work at work.

I have clear boundaries for my work because I want to enjoy the other aspects of my life.

No matter how hard I labor, work will always be there. I keep work separate from my personal life.

While at work, I use my time wisely so I can get things done at work, then I can relax once I’m home. After all, my body and mind needs both work and play.

It’s better for me to finish a project at work then to bring it home because my home is my sanctuary.

In my list of priorities, relationships always come first. I am not in a relationship with my job.

My family always comes before my work. When I spend time with my family, all thoughts of work are squeezed out of my mind.

When I caress my baby’s soft skin or my partner’s hair, I am reminded of how fragile life is.

Knowing that I don’t have forever with my family helps me place my life into perspective.

My desire to get just one more thing done is not stronger than my desire to be with my family.

I need time for myself so I don’t lose my identity. Taking time for myself helps me recharge so I can continue to be happy, healthy and productive.

During my time-off, I am creative and I pursue my other passions because it rejuvenates me.

Life is all about balance. My soul needs a balanced diet just like my body. Allowing myself an occasional sweet treat helps me to stay on track.

I enjoy my time with family.

My family is a precious gift. I feel so blessed that my Creator filled my life with such incredible people.

The time I have with my family is invaluable.

I cherish my family relationships — my parents who gave me a loving home, my siblings who make me feel special, my children who allow me to see the best in myself, and my spouse who loves and supports me.

Carving out family time is important because spending time with my family fills me with happiness.

I look forward to sharing time with the people who mean the most to me. After all, the purpose of my work is to find fulfillment in life, while providing for my family.

I also take time to nurture all of my family relationships. Keeping these connections nurtures my soul.

When I call a family member who lives far away, take the time to have an important conversation with my child, eat a meal with my relatives, or arrange an activity that allows us all to bond — I strengthen my family connections.

Because I have strong family bonds, I am never alone.

When I am with my family, I am surrounded by love. My family wants the best for me and is always there to listen to me.

My family brings laughter and love into my life. They provide me with a strong network that keeps me safe and grounded.

Spending time with my family is truly a blessing.
